Favorite Book Covers: Zoo City vs Zorro

As authors, we spend a lot of time pondering book covers. Admiring other authors' covers, dreaming about our own covers, designing our own covers ... So we thought it would be fun to spend the month of April and the A to Z Blogging Challenge looking at book covers and choosing our favorites.

Congratulations! You've made it to the end of the A to Z Blogging Challenge!

On the left, we have Zoo City. You have to zoom in on this book cover to really appreciate the detail. It is AMAZING! In fact, graphic artist Joey Hi-Fi won “Best Art” in 2011 at the British Science Fiction Association's annual awards for this book cover.
On the right, we have Zorro. A far simpler cover with a splash of color against a black silhouette most of us recognize.
So what will it be? Detailed art, or striking simplicity?

Favorite Book Covers: The Year of Fog vs The Year of the Flood

As authors, we spend a lot of time pondering book covers. Admiring other authors' covers, dreaming about our own covers, designing our own covers ... So we thought it would be fun to spend the month of April and the A to Z Blogging Challenge looking at book covers and choosing our favorites.

Both these books have similar artistic type covers (not to mention similar titles!), and I'm having a very hard time deciding which one I'd pick up first. Hmm ... hmm ... I think it might have to be The Year of the Flood because (and this sounds ridiculously silly) I don't really like the orange-red belt that person is wearing on the cover of The Year of Fog! Ha ha!

Favorite Book Covers: XVI vs X Isle

As authors, we spend a lot of time pondering book covers. Admiring other authors' covers, dreaming about our own covers, designing our own covers ... So we thought it would be fun to spend the month of April and the A to Z Blogging Challenge looking at book covers and choosing our favorites.

Only three days away from the end of the challenge, and here comes (arguably) the most difficult letter of the alphabet ;-)

I find both these covers enticing, and I like them each for different reasons. I love how the title has been done on XVI, the way we're looking through it at the slightly out of focus character. On the other hand, I'm not too find of the title treatment used in X Isle, but I LOVE the cover art! Without having to read the tagline, I can already put together pieces of the story from that beautiful piece of art. And I want to know more. So ... my favorite of the two is X Isle.

Two more of my all-time faves. Alyssa Day and Julia Quinn with their "V" title book covers. And yeah, I may have posted one of my covers too. I know it's cheating, but come on... It's a Valentine's Day novella. It doesn't get out much. And it's one of my favorite covers.

I love both of these book covers by Amber Natusch and Amy Bartol, and the theme is strikingly similar.

Favorite Book Covers: The Keatyn Chronicles, Old vs New

As authors, we spend a lot of time pondering book covers. Admiring other authors' covers, dreaming about our own covers, designing our own covers ... So we thought it would be fun to spend the month of April and the A to Z Blogging Challenge looking at book covers and choosing our favorites.

I love this series ~ The Keatyn Chronicles by Jillian Dodd are a blast to read! Once you start, you won't want to stop.

And look at her covers.

Love them!!!

The covers with the black background are her originals. The ones with the pink background are new. Aren't they fun?

If you haven't read this series, you should.
Here's the summary for book 1: STALK ME ~

Gossip meets Hollywood in a fun, steamy, and addictive series.
Keatyn has everything she ever dreamed. Her life is following the script she wrote for the perfect high school experience. She's popular, goes to the best parties, dates the hottest guy, and sits at the most-coveted lunch table.

She's just not sure she wants it anymore.

Because, really, things aren't all that perfect.
Her best friend is threatening to tell everyone her perfect relationship is a scam.
Her perfect boyfriend gets drunk at every party they go to.
It's exhausting always trying to look and act perfect.
And, deep down, she isn't sure if she has any true friends.

To add to the drama, her movie star mom has a creepy stalker.
A hot, older man flirts with her and tells her they should make a movie together.
And she's crushing on an adorable surfer. Dating him would mean committing social suicide.

So she writes a new script. One where all the pieces of her life will come together in perfect harmony.
But little does she know, there's someone who will do anything to make sure that doesn't happen.

Favorite Book Covers: Scarlet vs Shatter Me

As authors, we spend a lot of time pondering book covers. Admiring other authors' covers, dreaming about our own covers, designing our own covers ... So we thought it would be fun to spend the month of April and the A to Z Blogging Challenge looking at book covers and choosing our favorites.

Hi everyone! Amber Argyle here. My letter is "S" so of course I had to chose two of my favorites, Scarlet by Meyer and Shatter Me by Mafi. I LOVE Scarlet for the simple title, the font is absolutely stunning. The colors are so rich and vibrant, with enough hints to snag my interest without being inundated with too much.

Shatter me is very different. It has lots of details, but those details are subtle enough that you have to search them out. And if you've read the book, you can see the how all the little details tie into the story, which I love.

Also, I loved both books (you have to be just as pretty on the inside as the outside in order to draw me in).

A to Z Blogging Challenge: R-titled Book Covers!

I'm super-excited to be on the Dauntless blog today! It's my first time posting, as I'm new to the group, and I can't wait to share with you some book covers that I absolutely adore.

I'll admit that I spend a lot of time looking at book covers. Online, in the store, it doesn't matter. There's something magical about books! So in keeping with the theme here at Dauntless during the A to Z Blogging Challenge, I'm going to be examining some R-titled book covers.

Here we go!

I absolutely love RUBY RED, a YA book featuring time travel. I hadn't seen this second cover, the girl in the red dress, and personally, I like the first cover better. There's just SO MANY girls in dresses these days, don't you think?

I don't know what it is about the color red on R-titled books! Ha! This is the conclusion to the MATCHED trilogy (YA dystopian romance), so I like how the globe has been broken. But look! Another girl in a red dress! What do you think about this one?

Okay, it has now become my mission to find an R-titled book that doesn't have red on the cover! But at least there's no dress on this YA fantasy cover from Leigh Bardugo. This book isn't even out yet, but it's the third in the Grisha Trilogy, and I can't wait to read it come June!

So Q isn't the easiest letter to use. I decided to go with quirky mysteries because, well, I love them. Here are two of my favorite quirky mystery series and covers.

Maria V. Snyder's Study Series is one of my favorites! The books are marketed to both YA and Adult readers, and there are two covers targeted toward each demographic. These are the covers for Poison Study.

So, I couldn't think of any books that started with an "O", so I went to Goodreads and picked the only three from the whole list that I thought I might pick up and read based on the covers alone. Here they are. Do the covers entice you to read them?

Two more of my absolute favorite authors! Niki Burnham and Jay Crownover. Night Swimming is a fantastic story for high schoolers, and Nash... Well, it isn't out for another week, but it is going to be awesome! Jay Crownover writes NA.

Favorite Book Covers: Julianne MACLEAN vs Jojo MOYES

As authors, we spend a lot of time pondering book covers. Admiring other authors' covers, dreaming about our own covers, designing our own covers ... So we thought it would be fun to spend the month of April and the A to Z Blogging Challenge looking at book covers and choosing our favorites.

Hello, I'm Lee Strauss *waves*

My letter is M and I chose two covers by authors whose last names begin with M - Julianne MacLean and Jojo Moyes.

Newer editions have only Julianne Maclean listed as the author. This was the best quality cover I could grab.

Title also happens to begin with M

I've read both these books. The writing in each is excellent. The themes of both books left me thinking about the stories for a long time afterward. I would say they are both in the same genres: romance and family drama. They are both successful, yet the covers couldn't be more different.

Favorite Book Covers: The Lost Wife vs. Legend

As authors, we spend a lot of time pondering book covers. Admiring other authors' covers, dreaming about our own covers, designing our own covers ... So we thought it would be fun to spend the month of April and the A to Z Blogging Challenge looking at book covers and choosing our favorites.

I actually chose these two books because I loved the books...but thought the covers were lacking. In fact, I stayed away from reading both of these books for longer than I should have because I didn't like the covers. What do you think? Would you pick up either of these books to read just from seeing the covers-or would it take a recommendation or a book club to force you into it?
