As authors, we spend a lot of time pondering book covers. Admiring other authors' covers, dreaming about our own covers, designing our own covers ... So we thought it would be fun to spend the month of April and the A to Z Blogging Challenge looking at book covers and choosing our favorites.
Hi everyone, Amber Argyle here. My biggest pet peeve with covers is ones that are too busy. The two I chose today are fabulous for their simplicity.
I chose Texas Gothic because I'm a sucker for a good font. The image is simple enough to allow for a busier font, and everything is super easy to read. The layout is great. I love the colors, the girl's red hair with a pop of green for her eye. The hint of smoke curving around her gives a nice shape and hints that something otherworldly is going on. Also, the book is FANTASTIC. I adore the whole package.
Throne of Glass is very different. I love the layout. The font is super easy to read, well placed, and balances out the image perfectly. I like how the swirls of color around the girl draw your eyes to her. Her hair is fabulous. Her expression, weapons, and clothes are very harsh, but well balanced against the softer colors and gentle curves of the swirls and her hair. More color and more detail would have been cluttery, so this is well rounded and clean. And of course I LOVE this series.
Which is your favorite book cover and why?
